Until we arrive
What to do while you wait for a visit
General advice for the hours before a visit. When we call back, we will tell you what applies to your nest.
| Do | Do not | |
|---|---|---|
| Near the nest | DoClose doors and windows near it. Keep people and pets inside. | Do notStand under it, watch it, or let children play nearby. |
| The nest itself | DoLeave it alone. A disturbed nest is defended. | Do notKnock it down, spray it from the ground, or block the hole it uses. |
| Lights | DoTurn off outdoor lights near the nest after dark. Light draws wasps in. | Do notShine a flashlight at the nest to check on it. |
| Yard work | DoSkip mowing, trimming and leaf blowing near it. | Do notRun a mower, blower or hedge trimmer close to it. |
| Cars and grills | DoMove them out from under the nest. | Do notLeave a car or a lit grill beneath it. |
| The photo | DoTake it from across the yard or through a window, and text it. | Do notGo closer for a sharper picture. |
If someone is stung
Move inside, and know when to call 911
Most stings hurt and pass. A few do not.
Move away from the nest and go inside.
Call 911 for trouble breathing, swelling of the face, lips or throat, dizziness or a spreading rash.
If someone has a known allergy, follow their doctor's plan.
Keep a sting kit where you can reach it. We cannot give medical advice.
